ABOUT JIM FISCHER
Jim Fischer has coached cross country and track and field for over 50 years. He led the University of Delaware Men’s Cross Country and Track and Field program for 30 years where 45 of his teams placed in the top three at conference championships. Following his retirement from the University of Delaware, he coached at Sanford School and Ursuline Academy in Delaware. Under his leadership, Ursuline Academy won three State Championships.
He is a Level III certified coach in endurance and has taught Level I and Level II certification classes across the US. He served on the NCAA Men’s Cross Country Coaches Association’s Executive Board, presented at the Seoul Olympic Scientific Congress, and conducted coaching and training clinics in China, Egypt, Honduras, and Yemen. He was an assistant coach for the “East Team” at the 1991 U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in Los Angeles.
Coach Fischer co-founded the Delaware Track & Field Hall of Fame. He has worked with nonprofits including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Special Olympics as well as numerous regional running clubs and athletic organizations. He has been inducted into the Hall of Fame by six organizations and was named Delaware’s Coach of the Year in 2020.
